Funny As a Dead Relative: A Kimmy Kruse Mystery
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (October, 1994)
Author: Susan Rogers Cooper
Average review score:

great book
FUNNY AS A DEAD RELATIVE by Susan Rogers Cooper is a story of a girl named Kimmey Kruse, that brings trouble whenever she is near her relatives, she can't just stop investagate things.this is an appropriate choice for any one because it deals with being around your family members. Some people might face what Kimmey ,and the rest of her family and friends faced. For example some one in your family might get shoot by a gun and die or get murdered. What I don't think is appropriate is that is has some swears in it. Kimmey goes to a family reunion.well kim met her cousin will.she liked him,and he liked her.well that day will's mom Leticia dead.Nobody knew why but kim and her friend pucci ,who is a cop found out why,and later in the book they found out who or what killed her.It was murder.some body else in the family dead too,by murder.well kim's mom and dad and aunts and other relatives had a lot of secrts and then kim found out all of them out by asking.Well it's a great book but that is only if you like mysteries, murders, and swears.i dont want to tell who the killer is but you will think its alot of people and then you will find who it is and you will be like how can that be.

The Future Is Mestizo: Life Where Cultures Meet
Published in Paperback by University Press of Colorado (June, 2000)
Authors: Sandra Cisneros, David Carrasco, and Virgilio P. Elizondo
Average review score:

The Future is Mestizo: Life Where Cultures Meet, Revised Edi
The Reverend Father Elizondo presents his native San Antonio as a vibrant bilingual and multicultural city in central Texas on the frontier of the United States and Mexico. He recalls the history of New Spain and how Americans from the east viewed the northern lands of Mexico. From this divide comes a new mestizo, mix, as the Reverend Elizondo poignantly conveys Jesus's life as that of mestizo, a Jew whose very birth was questioned by his mother's people. Our world's history, especially European, is a mixture of people, or, loosely used, mestizo, and so will be our world's future the Reverend Elizondo brilliantly reminds the reader.

Garden of Thorns

Garden of Thorns
Following in the footsteps of Ashes to Ashes and Dust to Dust, Garden of Thorns takes up the lives of Mark Owen and Hillary Chase after their meeting in Scotland.

The story takes place in Mark's home town, Fort Worth, Texas where he is working on an archaeological dig at an historic mansion.

Osburn House has a sinister past, over the years two women have died there and the method of their deaths brings back memories of Jack the Ripper. Is there a connection and does the evil live on today in the owners of the house, the wealthy Coburg family?

As Mark learns more about the horrifying past of the house; Hillary, in her job at a local museum, finds a connection between the house and the ancient artifacts she is cataloguing for the Coburgs, and that connection leads to danger and death.

There is more than one mystery to be solved in this book and all are meticulously plotted - just when you think you understand the characters and their motives another sub-plot raises new questions.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys history and archaeology, ghost stories or mysteries - it has something for everyone!

Gay and Lesbian Themes in Latin American Writing (The Texas Pan American Series)
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Texas Press (December, 1991)
Author: David William Foster
Average review score:

Interesting, compelling, a real must!
I've recently gotten hold of this wonderful book for a research I'm doing on a semi-related subject and have come to realize that I couldn't have found a better source of analysis and information than this jewel written by Mr. David W. Foster. Not only is it an insight review of different books through the history of latin american writing, but it's also a remarkable effort in trying to look deeply into the always controversial subject of homosexuality in a culture where it has been allowed little space, both in terms of social recognition/acceptance/attention and of literary production. A book that will leave you thinking, will instruct you on the subject and -all at the same time- will suck you down 'til you finish it. Not throughly easy to read, since Mr. Foster's wording is very appropiately complicated, but it NEVER borders on rhetorical ramblings. Get this!

Genealogy of Murder: A Deb Ralston Mystery
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (April, 1900)
Author: Lee Martin
Average review score:

Another fine book in a very good series.
I have read several of the Deb Ralston series books and liked all of them immensely. These are books wonderfully suitable for someone looking for a cross between a cosy and a more modern, realistic mystery. Deb is neither a superwoman, a burn-out, or a sweet little old lady; she is a wife and mother who handles her duties as a police officer in a matter of fact manner. I like the direct, no nonsense attitude she displays, but she is neither cold nor hostile, just refreshingly normal

The General & the Texas: A Pictorial History of the Andrews Raid, April 12, 1862
Published in Paperback by Pictorial Histories Publishing Co. Inc. (July, 1999)
Authors: Stan Cohen and James G. Bogle
Average review score:

Outstanding!
This book is probably the most concentrated source of material on the Great Locomotive Chase that I have ever seen, and yet is presented in a highly readable format. Mr. Bogle has provided an impressive array of data on both engines and many rare photos of them from the 19th century up until today, as well as a prodigious amount on the participants themselves. Paintings and drawings by Wilbur Kurtz graphically illustrate key events in the raid and bring to life an event that today still captures the imagination. With chapters devoted to the films made of this event and of the Medal of Honor (first awarded to the raid participants), this book is guaranteed to provide many hours of fascinating reading for not only the railfan or modeler but also the Civil War historian.

Great introduction to an geologocally diverse area of Texas
This is the only book I have ever seen over the Solitario. This collapsed dome has represntitive strata from most of the geologically significant areas of Texas. This book is a treasure trove of information and comes with very informative full sized maps of the solitario.
